🛢️ Suncor Doubles Down on Oil-Centred Business Strategy
(theenergymix.com)
Suncor’s decision to focus on oil comes as the renewable energy transition is accelerating. Some oil and gas companies are investing in renewable energy, but Suncor is abandoning this trend. The company argues that oil and gas will remain an important part of the global energy supply for many years to come, and that it is best positioned to capitalize on this demand. How they expect to compete with rival energy companies once oil and gas is no longer an large part of the global energy supply is beyond us.
4. Speed up renewable energy
☀️ Renewable Energy Generation Operations Begin at Electrify America Solar Glow™ 1 (media.electrifyamerica.com)
Electrify America has begun commercial operation of Solar Glow 1, a 75 megawatt solar farm. The site is part of a larger project to add renewable generation capacity to power grids, in order to balance out the additional electricity requirements of EVs.
Agrivoltaics Is Making Friends Across Partisan Lines, Thanks To Farmers
(cleantechnica.com)
Agrivoltaics is a promising new technology that has the potential to benefit both farmers and the environment. By co-locating solar arrays with agricultural land, agrivoltaics can help to increase crop yields, conserve water, and reduce soil erosion. Additionally, agrivoltaics can provide farmers with a new source of income, which can help to offset the costs of transitioning to sustainable farming practices.
5. Shift towards sustainable transportation
🚆 Americans Want Sustainable Transportation Options, Not More Highways
(cleantechnica.com)
Conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the survey found that 72% of Americans believe that state governments should prioritize sustainable transportation options, such as public transit, walking, and biking, over highway expansions. The survey also found that 64% of Americans believe that traffic congestion is a major problem in their community, and that 40% of respondents view repairing existing roads or providing more transportation options including trains, buses, bike lanes, and sidewalks as the best long-term solutions for traffic.
0️⃣ New York is now the world’s first city to mandate EV rideshare fleets by 2030
(electrek.co)
New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has proposed a rule that would require 5% of all high-volume for-hire trips to be dispatched to electric vehicles (EVs) or wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) starting in 2024. The percentage would increase to 15% in 2025, 25% in 2026, and so on, until all vehicles are EVs by 2030.
The rule is part of the city’s Green Rides Initiative, which aims to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from the city’s transportation sector. The TLC estimates that the rule will reduce emissions by 2.7 million metric tons by 2030. The rule is also expected to have a significant impact on the electric vehicle market. The TLC estimates that the rule will create demand for an additional 200,000 EVs in New York City by 2030. This will help to accelerate the adoption of EVs and make them more affordable for consumers.

🌳 How Cities Are Adapting to Climate Change
(ecowatch.com)
The effects of climate change are already being felt in cities around the world. Heat waves, flooding, and air pollution are becoming more common and severe, and these events can have a devastating impact on human health, infrastructure, and the economy.
Cities are taking action to adapt to climate change by implementing a variety of measures. These include:
Green infrastructure: Planting trees and other vegetation can help to cool cities and reduce flooding.
Energy efficiency: Retrofitting buildings and improving public transportation can help to reduce energy consumption.
Reducing carbon emissions: Switching to renewable energy sources and investing in energy-efficient technologies can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
These measures can help to mitigate the effects of climate change and make cities more resilient to future shocks.

Alarm at exodus of climate voices on Twitter after Musk takeover
(theguardian.com)
Half of people regularly tweeting about the climate and nature crises abandoned Twitter after it was taken over by Elon Musk, according to new analysis.
The researchers said Twitter, now renamed X, had previously been the leading social media platform for environmental discussion and the decline was “troubling”. They said the “exodus of environmental users on Twitter is an existential threat” to a main way of informing people who want to take climate action.
